31. December – Karel Klíč carried out a successful test of the first photo-mechanical intaglio print (heliogravure) in Vienna. The first print made during the New Year’s night he gave to his wife as a New Year’s gift. (The first person to get a permission to put the technique into practice was Victor Angerer in Vienna.)
