Advent and Christmas before 1918

At the turn of the 19th and 20th century, photographing started to become a wide-spread activity and the number of amateur photographers increased. Images of Christmas celebrations had an important place in the albums of amateur photographers, while family pictures showing St. Nicholas, the Angel and the Devil only appeared rarely, undoubtedly because this Czech tradition was not yet as popular as it is today.

The original images are part of Collection Scheufler. None of the photographs may be reproduced or used in any form or by any means, including downloading, without the prior permission of the owner.
